Risk Warning on Trading HK Stocks

Despite Hong Kong's robust legal and regulatory framework, its stock market still faces unique risks and challenges, such as currency fluctuations due to the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar and the impact of mainland China's policy changes and economic conditions on Hong Kong stocks.

HK Stock Trading Fees and Taxation

Trading costs in the Hong Kong stock market include transaction fees, stamp duty, settlement charges, and currency conversion fees for foreign investors. Additionally, taxes may apply based on local regulations.

HK Non-Essential Consumer Goods Industry

The Hong Kong stock market encompasses non-essential consumption sectors like automotive, education, tourism, catering, and apparel. Of the 643 listed companies, 35% are mainland Chinese, making up 65% of the total market capitalization. Thus, it's heavily influenced by the Chinese economy.

HK Real Estate Industry

In recent years, the real estate and construction sector's share in the Hong Kong stock index has notably decreased. Nevertheless, as of 2022, it retains around 10% market share, covering real estate development, construction engineering, investment, and property management.

      Fundamentals

The escalating conflict between the US and Iran has triggered a surge in oil prices, fueled inflation concerns and renewed expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike, and pushed up the US dollar and US Treasury yields, putting significant pressure on gold.
Although gold faces significant headwinds in the short term, it still possesses long-term investment value. The traditional safe-haven demand due to geopolitical factors, the latest round of tariffs announced by the US government, and the risk of tariffs impacting the global economy, along with the need for asset diversification, continue to provide a solid foundation for gold's growth.

      Technical aspects

Gold shows signs of bottoming out_1
Looking at the 4-hour chart, XAUUSD has turned downwards again after falling from above 4100. In the short term, it has not yet broken out of the range-bound trading pattern that has lasted for more than a month. However, the support at the 4000 level is clearly very strong, with several attempts to break through and then quickly recovering, seemingly gradually solidifying the bottom. The longer the consolidation lasts, the higher the probability of a bottom forming and the more stable the structure. As long as it does not fall below 4000, gold may still successfully form a bottom.
In terms of trading strategy, it is not advisable to be overly bearish. You can try to go long when the price retraces to the vicinity of the 4000 level and stabilizes, with a target of around 4350 and a stop loss below 3950.
