Risk Warning on Trading HK Stocks

Despite Hong Kong's robust legal and regulatory framework, its stock market still faces unique risks and challenges, such as currency fluctuations due to the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar and the impact of mainland China's policy changes and economic conditions on Hong Kong stocks.

HK Stock Trading Fees and Taxation

Trading costs in the Hong Kong stock market include transaction fees, stamp duty, settlement charges, and currency conversion fees for foreign investors. Additionally, taxes may apply based on local regulations.

HK Non-Essential Consumer Goods Industry

The Hong Kong stock market encompasses non-essential consumption sectors like automotive, education, tourism, catering, and apparel. Of the 643 listed companies, 35% are mainland Chinese, making up 65% of the total market capitalization. Thus, it's heavily influenced by the Chinese economy.

HK Real Estate Industry

In recent years, the real estate and construction sector's share in the Hong Kong stock index has notably decreased. Nevertheless, as of 2022, it retains around 10% market share, covering real estate development, construction engineering, investment, and property management.

Limited Intervention? USDJPY Charges Toward 160 Again

      Summary:

Economic concerns stemming from the conflict in the Middle East, coupled with the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz, have dampened aggressive bets by yen bulls.

      Fundamentals
Japan’s financial markets have once again become the focus of global attention. As the dollar-yen exchange rate approaches the key psychological threshold of 160, policy pressure on the Japanese government and central bank continues to mount. However, compared to the rapid depreciation of the yen in late April, Japanese authorities have adopted a notably more restrained stance this time, reflecting their greater caution about intervening again given the limited effectiveness of previous large-scale interventions.
The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey released by the U.S. Department of Labor on Tuesday showed that as of the end of April, the number of job openings in the United States increased by 731,000 to 7.618 million, the highest level in nearly two years and far exceeding market expectations of 6.88 million. The job openings rate also rose from 4.2% in March to 4.6%, indicating a recovery in corporate hiring demand.
      Technical Analysis
On the daily chart, the Bollinger Bands are narrowing and the moving averages are flattening, indicating an overall upward trend. The RSI stands at 59, indicating that market participants are predominantly buying. On the 4-hour chart, the Bollinger Bands are widening upward, moving averages are diverging upward, and the MACD fast and slow lines are trading above the 0-line. The bullish trend remains intact, and there is a high probability of a rise to the round number level of 160. With the RSI at 60, the market is in an optimistic mood. Strategically, look to buy on dips.
