Risk Warning on Trading HK Stocks

Despite Hong Kong's robust legal and regulatory framework, its stock market still faces unique risks and challenges, such as currency fluctuations due to the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar and the impact of mainland China's policy changes and economic conditions on Hong Kong stocks.

HK Stock Trading Fees and Taxation

Trading costs in the Hong Kong stock market include transaction fees, stamp duty, settlement charges, and currency conversion fees for foreign investors. Additionally, taxes may apply based on local regulations.

HK Non-Essential Consumer Goods Industry

The Hong Kong stock market encompasses non-essential consumption sectors like automotive, education, tourism, catering, and apparel. Of the 643 listed companies, 35% are mainland Chinese, making up 65% of the total market capitalization. Thus, it's heavily influenced by the Chinese economy.

HK Real Estate Industry

In recent years, the real estate and construction sector's share in the Hong Kong stock index has notably decreased. Nevertheless, as of 2022, it retains around 10% market share, covering real estate development, construction engineering, investment, and property management.

      Market Overview

The latest market data available on 22 October shows EUR/USD trading around 1.1220, down approximately 0.15% on the session, after reaching an intraday range of 1.1214–1.1241. This places the proposed SELL at 1.1220 near the current market, with immediate resistance overhead and limited room for error if buyers regain momentum.
The euro faces mounting pressure from France's fiscal instability and political unrest. French 10-year borrowing costs have risen above 5% for the first time since 2002, while the spread over German government bonds has widened sharply. These developments raise concerns about sovereign risk and weaken confidence in the euro. Meanwhile, the US dollar is benefiting from defensive demand as geopolitical tensions and elevated oil prices unsettle markets.
The main risk to the SELL setup is that EUR/USD has already rebounded more than 1.4% from its October lows. A sustained break above 1.1276 would strengthen the recovery and weaken the bearish thesis.

      Market Sentiment

Market sentiment currently favours the US dollar, although EUR/USD is not yet in an uninterrupted downtrend. The latest technical dashboard classifies the pair as a strong sell, with both moving averages and technical indicators pointing lower. The daily RSI has recovered from deeply oversold territory below 26 to approximately 38, suggesting that bearish momentum may be easing even as the broader outlook remains weak.
This creates an important distinction for the 1.1220 SELL: the macroeconomic backdrop favours further euro weakness, but the entry is close to a potential short-term support and consolidation area. Selling becomes more attractive if price fails to break above 1.1240–1.1252 and then forms a lower high. If buyers push through 1.1252 and hold above it, the market may extend its recovery toward 1.1276, exposing early short positions to losses.
For M15 execution, the preferred signal is a bearish rejection candle near resistance, followed by a break below the preceding swing low. Avoid entering immediately before major economic releases, as sharp price movements can cause slippage and invalidate otherwise reasonable technical setups.

      Technical Analysis

The euro faces mounting pressure from France's fiscal instability_1
Bollinger Bands (20,0,2): Live M15 band values could not be independently verified. Look for price to reject the middle band or upper band near 1.1240–1.1252, followed by a close back inside the envelope. A downward-sloping middle band would reinforce the bearish case. If the bands expand upward while price holds above the middle band, the recovery may continue and the SELL setup should be reconsidered.
Ichimoku Kinko Hyo (9,26,52): Current M15 Tenkan-sen, Kijun-sen and Kumo values are unavailable. The preferred bearish configuration is price below the cloud, Tenkan-sen below Kijun-sen, and the cloud acting as overhead resistance. A break beneath the Kijun-sen following a failed recovery would strengthen the short setup. If price reclaims the cloud and establishes higher lows, the immediate bearish thesis weakens.
Stochastic (5,3,3): Wait for a bearish crossover from the upper region, ideally near 1.1240–1.1252. The signal becomes more convincing when accompanied by a lower high and a bearish M15 candle close. If Stochastic is already deeply oversold near 1.1200, avoid chasing the decline because a corrective rebound becomes more likely.
The key resistance levels are 1.1240–1.1252, followed by 1.1276. Initial support is near 1.1200, with 1.1185 as the next downside reference. A sustained break below 1.1185 would strengthen the bearish continuation scenario, while a decisive move above 1.1276 would materially weaken it.

      Trade Recommendation

      Entry: 1.1220
      Take Profit: 1.1185
      Stop Loss: 1.1250
