Risk Warning on Trading HK Stocks

Despite Hong Kong's robust legal and regulatory framework, its stock market still faces unique risks and challenges, such as currency fluctuations due to the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar and the impact of mainland China's policy changes and economic conditions on Hong Kong stocks.

HK Stock Trading Fees and Taxation

Trading costs in the Hong Kong stock market include transaction fees, stamp duty, settlement charges, and currency conversion fees for foreign investors. Additionally, taxes may apply based on local regulations.

HK Non-Essential Consumer Goods Industry

The Hong Kong stock market encompasses non-essential consumption sectors like automotive, education, tourism, catering, and apparel. Of the 643 listed companies, 35% are mainland Chinese, making up 65% of the total market capitalization. Thus, it's heavily influenced by the Chinese economy.

HK Real Estate Industry

In recent years, the real estate and construction sector's share in the Hong Kong stock index has notably decreased. Nevertheless, as of 2022, it retains around 10% market share, covering real estate development, construction engineering, investment, and property management.

USD/CHF Extends Weekly Decline Amid US Election Uncertainty

      Traders' Opinions
      Summary:

USD/CHF falls to a seven-week low as stronger Swiss inflation supports the Franc, while US election uncertainty weighs on the Dollar. Markets are reassessing the SNB’s policy outlook as inflation accelerates.

The Swiss Franc strengthened for a second consecutive session on Tuesday, pushing USD/CHF to a fresh seven-week low near 0.8149. The move reflects a combination of stronger-than-expected Swiss inflation and continued weakness in the US Dollar as uncertainty surrounding the US midterm elections keeps investors cautious. The pair has now fallen by more than 1% this week, extending its recent downward momentum.
Swiss inflation figures provided fresh support for the Franc. Consumer prices increased by 0.2% month-on-month in October, outperforming expectations for no change. Annual inflation accelerated to 1.5% from 1% in September, also exceeding the 1.3% forecast and reaching its highest level in more than two years. Although inflation remains relatively moderate, the acceleration suggests that rising energy costs are beginning to exert greater pressure on domestic prices.
The latest figures could complicate the Swiss National Bank’s policy outlook if inflation continues to accelerate. The data does not necessarily require an immediate interest rate increase, but sustained price pressures, particularly those linked to energy costs and the ongoing Middle East conflict, could bring monetary tightening back into consideration sooner than previously anticipated. For the Franc, the significance lies in the possibility that markets may begin reassessing expectations for the SNB’s next policy steps.
The Dollar, meanwhile, remains vulnerable ahead of the US midterm elections. ING does not expect the results to trigger a fundamental shift in foreign exchange markets, although the analysts identify a potential additional downside risk if Democrats secure control of both chambers of Congress. Concerns over tighter regulation affecting AI-related stocks, alongside uncertainty surrounding government funding and future debt-ceiling negotiations, could weigh on investor sentiment toward the Greenback.
For USD/CHF, the combination of improving Swiss inflation figures and election-related uncertainty in the United States continues to favour the downside. However, the extent of further Dollar weakness will depend partly on the election outcome and whether upcoming developments reinforce concerns about US political and fiscal uncertainty. Unless the Greenback attracts renewed demand or Swiss inflation loses momentum, the pair may remain under pressure after breaking to fresh multi-week lows.

      Technical Analysis

USD/CHF maintains a clear bearish structure on the H4 chart, with price continuing to form lower highs and lower lows after failing to sustain its recovery toward the 0.8290 region. The latest decline has pushed the pair toward the 0.8190 support area, which is now an important technical level. Previous support around 0.8260–0.8270 has already been broken, and the subsequent rejection from below confirms that sellers remain in control.
Price is currently consolidating around 0.8190–0.8200, a zone that could temporarily attract buyers. However, the broader structure suggests this area may turn into resistance if the pair attempts a recovery. A short-lived bounce toward 0.8195–0.8200 followed by renewed selling pressure would strengthen the bearish continuation scenario. A decisive break below the recent lows would also expose lower support levels.
The projected path on the chart points toward 0.8045, suggesting room for another substantial leg lower. The bearish outlook remains valid while USD/CHF stays below the 0.8235–0.8240 resistance region. A sustained move above that area would weaken the immediate selling setup, while continued rejection around current levels would favor sellers targeting the next downside extension.
