Risk Warning on Trading HK Stocks

Despite Hong Kong's robust legal and regulatory framework, its stock market still faces unique risks and challenges, such as currency fluctuations due to the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar and the impact of mainland China's policy changes and economic conditions on Hong Kong stocks.

HK Stock Trading Fees and Taxation

Trading costs in the Hong Kong stock market include transaction fees, stamp duty, settlement charges, and currency conversion fees for foreign investors. Additionally, taxes may apply based on local regulations.

HK Non-Essential Consumer Goods Industry

The Hong Kong stock market encompasses non-essential consumption sectors like automotive, education, tourism, catering, and apparel. Of the 643 listed companies, 35% are mainland Chinese, making up 65% of the total market capitalization. Thus, it's heavily influenced by the Chinese economy.

HK Real Estate Industry

In recent years, the real estate and construction sector's share in the Hong Kong stock index has notably decreased. Nevertheless, as of 2022, it retains around 10% market share, covering real estate development, construction engineering, investment, and property management.

DXY Holds Near 102.25 as Traders Await US CPI Data

      Traders' Opinions
      Summary:

The US Dollar steadies near 102.24 ahead of September CPI. Rising energy costs are expected to lift headline inflation, while softer core inflation could weaken expectations for further Fed tightening.

The US Dollar regained some ground during Wednesday's European session, recovering from earlier weakness as investors positioned themselves ahead of the highly anticipated US September Consumer Price Index (CPI) report. The US Dollar Index (DXY) edged higher toward 102.24, with traders reluctant to establish significant positions before the inflation figures.
Market expectations suggest that rising energy costs will push headline inflation higher, potentially complicating the Federal Reserve's monetary policy outlook. Rabobank forecasts annual headline CPI to accelerate to 3.6% from 3.4%, while monthly inflation is expected to rise 0.6%, compared with August's 0.4% increase.
However, underlying inflation is expected to present a more encouraging picture. Core CPI is projected at 2.5% annually, with monthly growth slowing to 0.2%. This divergence suggests that energy prices, rather than a broad acceleration in consumer costs, may account for much of the expected increase in headline inflation.
Federal Reserve officials remain cautious about declaring victory over inflation. Boston Fed President Susan Collins has emphasized persistent price pressures, highlighting elevated energy costs and growing investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure as potential inflationary drivers. Nevertheless, her assessment of a relatively stable labor market and resilient economic activity suggests policymakers retain flexibility when considering additional tightening.
The FXS Fed Sentiment Index declined 2.23 points to 131.63, indicating a modest reduction in hawkish expectations. Despite the decline, the reading remains comfortably above the neutral threshold of 100, reflecting continued concerns about inflation.
A moderation in core inflation could encourage investors to reduce expectations for further Fed rate increases. Conversely, a monthly core CPI reading of 0.4% or higher would likely strengthen the argument for earlier monetary tightening.
The Dollar's immediate direction will largely depend on whether the inflation report reinforces expectations of further rate hikes or provides evidence that underlying price pressures are easing. A hotter-than-expected reading could support additional gains, while softer core inflation may trigger renewed selling pressure.

Technical AnalysisDXY Holds Near 102.25 as Traders Await US CPI Data_1

The US Dollar Index continues to maintain a constructive bullish structure on the four-hour chart, despite experiencing a modest pullback from recent highs around 102.35. The broader price action remains characterized by successive higher highs and higher lows, indicating that buyers continue to dominate the underlying trend. The latest retreat appears to be a corrective phase rather than a confirmed reversal, with the index consolidating near 101.96 ahead of its next potential directional move.
The immediate focus remains on the 102.05–102.20 resistance zone, which has repeatedly restricted upward momentum. Although recent attempts to sustain a breakout have been unsuccessful, the index continues to trade within striking distance of this region. A decisive four-hour close above 102.20 would strengthen the bullish outlook, potentially opening the door for a renewed advance toward 102.35, followed by the psychological 102.50 level.
On the downside, the 101.85–101.90 area represents immediate support, where buyers may attempt to defend the recent recovery. A deeper corrective move could extend toward the more established 101.40–101.55 demand zone, which has previously attracted buying interest and remains an important foundation of the current bullish structure. As long as this region holds, the broader upward trajectory remains technically intact.
The projected price path suggests that the index could undergo a brief period of consolidation or a final retest of nearby support before attempting another breakout. Should buyers successfully reclaim the 102.20 resistance area, bullish momentum could accelerate toward 103.00, with the broader upside objective situated around 103.50–103.55.
However, sustained weakness below 101.40 would undermine the immediate bullish setup and increase the likelihood of a deeper correction toward the 100.10–100.30 support region.
Overall, the technical outlook remains bullish, with the recent decline presenting a potential opportunity for buyers to re-enter the prevailing trend, provided the index maintains its key support levels.
