Risk Warning on Trading HK Stocks

Despite Hong Kong's robust legal and regulatory framework, its stock market still faces unique risks and challenges, such as currency fluctuations due to the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar and the impact of mainland China's policy changes and economic conditions on Hong Kong stocks.

HK Stock Trading Fees and Taxation

Trading costs in the Hong Kong stock market include transaction fees, stamp duty, settlement charges, and currency conversion fees for foreign investors. Additionally, taxes may apply based on local regulations.

HK Non-Essential Consumer Goods Industry

The Hong Kong stock market encompasses non-essential consumption sectors like automotive, education, tourism, catering, and apparel. Of the 643 listed companies, 35% are mainland Chinese, making up 65% of the total market capitalization. Thus, it's heavily influenced by the Chinese economy.

HK Real Estate Industry

In recent years, the real estate and construction sector's share in the Hong Kong stock index has notably decreased. Nevertheless, as of 2022, it retains around 10% market share, covering real estate development, construction engineering, investment, and property management.

The Euro edged lower against the US Dollar during Wednesday's European session, with EUR/USD trading around 1.1190 after retreating from an intraday high of 1.1211. The decline comes as the Greenback recovers earlier losses, with investors adopting a cautious approach ahead of the highly anticipated US September Consumer Price Index (CPI) report.
The US Dollar Index (DXY) strengthened modestly toward 102.24 as markets awaited fresh inflation figures that could significantly influence expectations surrounding the Federal Reserve's next monetary policy decisions.
According to Danske Bank, US headline inflation is expected to accelerate to 3.6% annually from 3.4%, with monthly consumer prices projected to increase 0.5%. Meanwhile, core inflation is forecast to rise 2.5% year-on-year, compared with 2.4% previously, although monthly core price growth is expected to moderate to 0.2% from 0.3%.
The anticipated increase in headline inflation largely reflects higher energy costs, which continue to complicate the Federal Reserve's efforts to contain price pressures. A stronger-than-expected inflation reading could reinforce expectations of additional monetary tightening, potentially providing further support for the Dollar and increasing downside pressure on EUR/USD.
Conversely, evidence of moderating underlying inflation could weaken the case for aggressive Fed tightening and offer the Euro some breathing room.
Investors will also monitor the Federal Reserve's Beige Book, scheduled for release at 18:00 GMT, for further indications of economic conditions and inflation developments across the United States.
Meanwhile, the Euro faces its own monetary policy challenges as expectations grow that the European Central Bank will leave interest rates unchanged later this month. A Reuters survey conducted between October 5 and 8 showed that 70 of 73 economists anticipate the ECB maintaining its deposit rate at 2.50% during its October 29 meeting.
The immediate outlook for EUR/USD remains cautious, with the pair vulnerable to additional selling pressure should US inflation reinforce the Dollar's interest-rate advantage. However, softer core inflation could provide the catalyst for a near-term recovery.

Technical AnalysisEUR/USD Faces Downside Risks as ECB Rate Hold Expectations Grow_1

EUR/USD remains firmly entrenched in a bearish trend on the daily chart, with the pair trading around 1.1195 following an extended decline from its August highs near 1.1700. The price structure continues to reflect a succession of lower highs and lower lows, highlighting persistent selling pressure and limited buying interest. Despite occasional recovery attempts, the Euro has struggled to establish meaningful upside momentum, suggesting that the broader downward trajectory remains intact.
The latest decline has pushed EUR/USD beneath several important technical support levels, including the 1.1630–1.1650, 1.1475–1.1490, and 1.1350–1.1370 zones, which previously provided stability during earlier consolidation periods. These breakdowns have reinforced the bearish outlook, with former support levels now representing potential resistance should the pair stage a recovery.
More recently, prices have slipped below the 1.1210–1.1230 region, another significant technical area that has transitioned from support into resistance. Although buyers have attempted to stabilize the pair near 1.1150, the rebound remains relatively shallow and has yet to challenge the prevailing bearish structure.
A temporary recovery toward 1.1210–1.1230 remains possible, particularly as the market consolidates following its recent sharp decline. However, failure to reclaim this region would suggest that sellers remain firmly in control, potentially creating an opportunity for another downward extension.
On the downside, a sustained break beneath 1.1140–1.1150 would strengthen the bearish continuation scenario, exposing the psychological 1.1100 level, followed by 1.1000. The broader projected decline on the chart points toward the 1.0900 region, which represents the next major downside objective should selling pressure accelerate.
Conversely, a decisive recovery above 1.1230 would ease immediate downside pressure and could encourage a deeper corrective rebound toward 1.1350–1.1370. Nevertheless, such a move would not necessarily invalidate the broader bearish trend unless buyers establish a sustained recovery above the higher resistance levels.
Overall, the technical outlook continues to favor further EUR/USD weakness, with short-term rebounds likely to remain corrective unless the pair can reclaim previously broken support levels. The prevailing setup suggests that sellers may look to capitalize on temporary recoveries before targeting lower price levels.
