Risk Warning on Trading HK Stocks

Despite Hong Kong's robust legal and regulatory framework, its stock market still faces unique risks and challenges, such as currency fluctuations due to the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar and the impact of mainland China's policy changes and economic conditions on Hong Kong stocks.

HK Stock Trading Fees and Taxation

Trading costs in the Hong Kong stock market include transaction fees, stamp duty, settlement charges, and currency conversion fees for foreign investors. Additionally, taxes may apply based on local regulations.

HK Non-Essential Consumer Goods Industry

The Hong Kong stock market encompasses non-essential consumption sectors like automotive, education, tourism, catering, and apparel. Of the 643 listed companies, 35% are mainland Chinese, making up 65% of the total market capitalization. Thus, it's heavily influenced by the Chinese economy.

HK Real Estate Industry

In recent years, the real estate and construction sector's share in the Hong Kong stock index has notably decreased. Nevertheless, as of 2022, it retains around 10% market share, covering real estate development, construction engineering, investment, and property management.

EUR/GBP Faces Continued Selling Pressure Amid European Uncertainty

      Traders' Opinions
      Summary:

EUR/GBP struggles near 0.8450 after reaching a 16-month low. French fiscal concerns, elevated oil prices and growing BoE rate hike expectations continue to favor Sterling.

EUR/GBP staged a modest recovery on Tuesday, climbing toward 0.8450 after touching a 16-month low of 0.8444. However, the rebound remains fragile following a nearly 2% decline over the past two weeks, with persistent political uncertainty in France and elevated energy costs continuing to undermine confidence in the Euro.
France's worsening fiscal situation remains a major concern for investors. Rising government debt has pushed borrowing costs toward levels last seen during the European sovereign debt crisis, while political divisions have complicated efforts to introduce meaningful spending reforms. Growing student protests have added to the uncertainty, further weakening sentiment toward the single currency.
Energy prices are creating additional challenges for the Eurozone. Although Brent crude edged lower on Tuesday, prices remained above $100 per barrel as tensions in the Middle East persisted. The apparent collapse of the proposed Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire has also kept supply concerns elevated, increasing the economic burden on Europe's oil-dependent economies.
Meanwhile, Germany's latest inflation figures highlighted persistent price pressures. September's Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices rose 0.6% monthly, compared with 0.2% in August, while annual inflation accelerated to 3.3% from 2.9%. Despite the stronger figures, the Euro received little support as investors remained focused on broader economic and political risks.
In contrast, the British Pound continues to benefit from expectations of a more restrictive Bank of England monetary policy. Resilient UK economic data and persistent inflation have encouraged markets to reconsider the possibility of additional tightening.
Commerzbank analyst Volkmar Baur indicated that recent developments have shifted the bank's expectations, making a November BoE interest rate increase more likely than previously anticipated.
The broader outlook for EUR/GBP remains bearish, with Sterling's relative resilience contrasting sharply with the challenges facing the Euro. Although temporary rebounds are possible following the recent selloff, sustained gains may prove difficult without an improvement in France's political outlook or a meaningful decline in energy prices.

Technical AnalysisEUR/GBP Faces Continued Selling Pressure Amid European Uncertainty_1

EUR/GBP remains firmly under bearish pressure on the four-hour chart, with the currency cross trading around 0.8447 following a sustained decline from the 0.8600 region. The recent selloff has significantly weakened the market structure, with successive lower highs and lower lows highlighting the dominance of sellers. Despite attempts to stabilize near current levels, buying interest remains insufficient to suggest a convincing reversal, leaving the pair vulnerable to another downward extension.
A particularly important development has been the breakdown beneath the 0.8525–0.8540 support region, which previously provided a foundation for several recovery attempts. The decisive move below this area marked a deterioration in the broader technical outlook, accelerating losses toward the next significant demand zone around 0.8450–0.8465.
Price action is now testing the lower boundary of this support region, with the latest candles struggling to regain lost ground. A brief rebound toward 0.8460–0.8480 remains possible, but the formation of another lower high suggests that any recovery could attract renewed selling pressure rather than develop into a sustained bullish move.
A confirmed four-hour close beneath 0.8445 would strengthen the bearish continuation scenario, potentially exposing the 0.8415 psychological area before opening the way toward 0.8360–0.8370, which aligns with the downside trajectory illustrated on the chart.
Alternatively, a recovery above 0.8480 could provide temporary relief and encourage a retest of 0.8525–0.8540. However, buyers would need to reclaim this former support region convincingly to begin challenging the prevailing bearish structure. Beyond that, the 0.8600–0.8610 supply zone remains a major obstacle to any broader bullish recovery.
The current consolidation near 0.8450 therefore appears more consistent with a temporary pause in the downtrend than a meaningful shift in market sentiment. With resistance levels continuing to hold and sellers maintaining control of the broader price structure, the technical outlook favors further depreciation, particularly if the pair establishes a sustained break below its immediate support.
