Risk Warning on Trading HK Stocks

Despite Hong Kong's robust legal and regulatory framework, its stock market still faces unique risks and challenges, such as currency fluctuations due to the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar and the impact of mainland China's policy changes and economic conditions on Hong Kong stocks.

HK Stock Trading Fees and Taxation

Trading costs in the Hong Kong stock market include transaction fees, stamp duty, settlement charges, and currency conversion fees for foreign investors. Additionally, taxes may apply based on local regulations.

HK Non-Essential Consumer Goods Industry

The Hong Kong stock market encompasses non-essential consumption sectors like automotive, education, tourism, catering, and apparel. Of the 643 listed companies, 35% are mainland Chinese, making up 65% of the total market capitalization. Thus, it's heavily influenced by the Chinese economy.

HK Real Estate Industry

In recent years, the real estate and construction sector's share in the Hong Kong stock index has notably decreased. Nevertheless, as of 2022, it retains around 10% market share, covering real estate development, construction engineering, investment, and property management.

GBP/USD Loses Momentum Ahead of Key US Inflation Report

      Traders' Opinions
      Summary:

GBP/USD struggles around 1.3235 as the Dollar strengthens ahead of US inflation data. Expectations of higher US inflation and weaker UK economic growth keep Sterling under pressure.

The British Pound surrendered its earlier gains against the US Dollar on Monday, with GBP/USD hovering around 1.3235 as investors turned cautious ahead of Wednesday's US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report. Renewed demand for the Greenback weighed on Sterling, pushing the US Dollar Index (DXY) 0.15% higher toward 102.38.
Market attention is firmly focused on US inflation, with annual headline CPI expected to accelerate to 3.7% in September from 3.4% in August. Core inflation is projected to increase to 2.5% from 2.4%, while monthly headline prices are forecast to rise 0.6%, compared with the previous 0.4% increase.
These expectations reinforce concerns that inflation remains stubbornly elevated, potentially encouraging the Federal Reserve to maintain a restrictive monetary policy stance. Stronger-than-anticipated figures could further support the Dollar and intensify pressure on GBP/USD.
Meanwhile, energy markets remain an important influence on inflation expectations. An agreement involving additional Russian diesel exports to the United States has raised hopes of improved fuel availability. According to ING, planned shipments include 300,000 tonnes immediately, followed by 500,000 tonnes in November and one million tonnes in December. However, broader geopolitical uncertainty continues to influence oil prices and investor sentiment.
In the United Kingdom, attention turns to Thursday's August GDP report, with economists forecasting a 0.1% contraction following July's 0.4% expansion. Manufacturing and industrial production figures will also be closely monitored for signs of weakening economic activity.
GBP/USD remains vulnerable to further downside pressure, particularly if US inflation exceeds expectations while UK growth disappoints. Although softer US inflation could provide temporary relief for Sterling, the immediate outlook remains cautious as investors await clearer signals on the Federal Reserve's policy direction.

Technical AnalysisGBP/USD Loses Momentum Ahead of Key US Inflation Report_1

GBP/USD remains under sustained selling pressure on the four-hour chart, with the broader market structure continuing to favor the bears despite a period of sideways trading. Following the sharp retreat from the 1.3640–1.3660 region, Sterling has established a succession of lower highs and lower lows, reflecting a significant deterioration in bullish momentum. The pair is currently trading around 1.3230, where price action has become increasingly compressed between clearly defined support and resistance levels.
The recent consolidation resembles a bearish rectangle formation, developing after an aggressive downward move. Repeated attempts to recover toward the 1.3290–1.3310 resistance zone have failed to generate sustained buying interest, suggesting that sellers remain active whenever prices approach the upper boundary. Meanwhile, the 1.3175–1.3190 support region has repeatedly absorbed selling pressure, making it the principal level separating the current consolidation from another potential downward extension.
A decisive break beneath 1.3175, particularly if followed by a failed attempt to reclaim the broken support, would strengthen the bearish outlook and potentially accelerate losses toward 1.3140 and 1.3100. Beyond these intermediate levels, the chart's projected trajectory points toward the 1.2970–1.3000 region, where the psychological 1.3000 threshold could become an important downside objective.
Conversely, any recovery above 1.3230 could encourage a temporary rebound toward 1.3290–1.3310. However, such a move would likely represent a corrective recovery rather than a meaningful trend reversal unless buyers establish a sustained foothold above that resistance. A stronger recovery beyond this area would expose the higher supply zone around 1.3460–1.3490 and weaken the immediate bearish setup.
The prevailing technical picture suggests that the market is consolidating recent losses rather than building a convincing bullish reversal. As long as GBP/USD remains capped beneath 1.3300, the path of least resistance appears tilted to the downside, with a confirmed break of 1.3175 potentially setting the stage for another significant bearish move.

      ENTRY PRICE: 1.3230
      STOP LOSS: 1.3310
