Risk Warning on Trading HK Stocks

Despite Hong Kong's robust legal and regulatory framework, its stock market still faces unique risks and challenges, such as currency fluctuations due to the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar and the impact of mainland China's policy changes and economic conditions on Hong Kong stocks.

HK Stock Trading Fees and Taxation

Trading costs in the Hong Kong stock market include transaction fees, stamp duty, settlement charges, and currency conversion fees for foreign investors. Additionally, taxes may apply based on local regulations.

HK Non-Essential Consumer Goods Industry

The Hong Kong stock market encompasses non-essential consumption sectors like automotive, education, tourism, catering, and apparel. Of the 643 listed companies, 35% are mainland Chinese, making up 65% of the total market capitalization. Thus, it's heavily influenced by the Chinese economy.

HK Real Estate Industry

In recent years, the real estate and construction sector's share in the Hong Kong stock index has notably decreased. Nevertheless, as of 2022, it retains around 10% market share, covering real estate development, construction engineering, investment, and property management.

NZD/USD Slips as Softer New Zealand Inflation Weighs on Kiwi

      Traders' Opinions
      Summary:

NZD/USD falls 0.25% toward 0.5679 as weaker-than-expected New Zealand inflation weighs on the Kiwi. However, expectations of an RBNZ rate hike and Friday’s US PMI data could shape the pair’s next move.

The New Zealand Dollar weakened against its major peers on Thursday, with NZD/USD falling around 0.25% to 0.5679 during the European session. The decline follows weaker-than-expected third-quarter inflation data, which has added uncertainty to the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s monetary policy outlook. A modest recovery in the US Dollar is also contributing to the pair’s downward pressure.
New Zealand’s headline Consumer Price Index rose 0.7% quarter-on-quarter in Q3, slowing from 1.5% in the previous quarter and falling short of the 0.8% increase expected by economists. Strategists at Brown Brothers Harriman noted that the inflation reading undershot expectations, providing a fresh headwind for the Kiwi.
However, the softer figures do not necessarily eliminate the prospect of further monetary tightening. BBH argues that inflation remains above the central bank’s target, while elevated oil prices could continue to fuel price pressures. Interest rate swaps are pricing in an 85% probability of a 25-basis-point RBNZ rate hike to 3.00% on October 28, with more than 100 basis points of tightening anticipated over the next twelve months.
This creates a mixed outlook for the New Zealand Dollar. Although the latest inflation data has weakened near-term sentiment, expectations of additional rate increases could offer some support if the RBNZ maintains a hawkish stance. In my assessment, the Kiwi’s immediate direction will depend on whether investors focus more heavily on the downside inflation surprise or the prospect of continued monetary tightening.
Meanwhile, the US Dollar has regained some ground, with the US Dollar Index rebounding toward 101.66 after recently approaching a three-week low near 101.45. This recovery has added further pressure on NZD/USD, limiting the Kiwi’s ability to stabilize.
Attention now turns to Friday’s US S&P Global flash Purchasing Managers’ Index data for October, which could provide fresh insight into business activity and influence demand for the US Dollar. For now, softer New Zealand inflation and a firmer Greenback are weighing on NZD/USD, while upcoming RBNZ policy guidance remains an important factor for the currency’s near-term outlook.

Technical AnalysisNZD/USD Slips as Softer New Zealand Inflation Weighs on Kiwi_1

NZD/USD maintains a bearish market structure on the H4 timeframe, trading around 0.5673 after a sharp decline from the August highs near 0.5980. The chart shows a sustained sequence of lower highs and lower lows, indicating that sellers remain firmly in control despite a recent corrective rebound from the 0.5570–0.5580 support region.
The latest recovery pushed the pair toward the 0.5700–0.5710 resistance zone, where buying momentum began to weaken. This area is particularly important because it previously acted as support before price broke lower. The rejection suggests that former support may now be functioning as resistance, creating a potential opportunity for sellers to reassert control. As long as NZD/USD remains below this zone, the broader bearish outlook remains intact.
On the downside, the immediate support lies around 0.5570–0.5580. A decisive break below this region would expose the next downside targets near 0.5530, followed by 0.5420, which aligns with the projected bearish path on the chart. Reaching the lower target would likely require sustained selling pressure and a clear breakdown of the current support structure.
However, if buyers manage to reclaim 0.5710 and hold above it, the bearish scenario could weaken in the short term, opening the door to a recovery toward 0.5770–0.5780. For now, the recent rebound appears corrective rather than a confirmed trend reversal, as the pair has yet to establish a higher high on the broader H4 structure.
Overall, the technical bias remains bearish, with the preferred scenario favoring renewed selling following the recent rejection near resistance. Traders should monitor the 0.5700–0.5710 region for signs of renewed selling pressure and watch whether the 0.5570–0.5580 support zone breaks. A sustained move below support would strengthen the case for further downside toward 0.5530 and potentially 0.5420.
