Risk Warning on Trading HK Stocks

Despite Hong Kong's robust legal and regulatory framework, its stock market still faces unique risks and challenges, such as currency fluctuations due to the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar and the impact of mainland China's policy changes and economic conditions on Hong Kong stocks.

HK Stock Trading Fees and Taxation

Trading costs in the Hong Kong stock market include transaction fees, stamp duty, settlement charges, and currency conversion fees for foreign investors. Additionally, taxes may apply based on local regulations.

HK Non-Essential Consumer Goods Industry

The Hong Kong stock market encompasses non-essential consumption sectors like automotive, education, tourism, catering, and apparel. Of the 643 listed companies, 35% are mainland Chinese, making up 65% of the total market capitalization. Thus, it's heavily influenced by the Chinese economy.

HK Real Estate Industry

In recent years, the real estate and construction sector's share in the Hong Kong stock index has notably decreased. Nevertheless, as of 2022, it retains around 10% market share, covering real estate development, construction engineering, investment, and property management.

XAU/USD Hits One-Week High as Fed Rate Expectations Cap Gains

      Traders' Opinions
      Summary:

Gold approaches $4,200 as weaker Treasury yields and a softer Dollar support its recovery. However, persistent Middle East tensions and expectations of further Fed rate hikes continue to limit bullish momentum.

Gold (XAU/USD) extended its recovery for a second consecutive session on Friday, climbing toward the psychological $4,200 level, its highest in a week, as easing US Treasury yields and a softer Dollar encouraged renewed buying interest. However, the precious metal continues to face resistance from expectations of further Federal Reserve monetary tightening and lingering geopolitical uncertainty.
The recovery follows a retreat in the US Dollar from its strongest levels since April 2025, supported by profit-taking after a successful US 30-year Treasury bond auction helped stabilize the bond market. The subsequent decline in yields reduced some of the pressure on non-yielding assets, allowing Gold to recover from the two-month lows recorded earlier in the week.
Geopolitical developments have also contributed to improving market sentiment. President Donald Trump indicated that Washington would avoid launching additional military strikes against Iran before the November 3 midterm elections, while describing ongoing diplomatic discussions as productive. The announcement helped contain crude Oil prices, temporarily easing concerns that another energy-driven inflation surge could force the Federal Reserve into more aggressive tightening.
Nevertheless, the broader Middle East situation remains fragile. US Vice President JD Vance reiterated Washington's demand for meaningful restrictions on Iran's uranium enrichment activities, while Iranian Atomic Energy Chief Mohammad Eslami rejected calls to abandon enrichment or surrender existing stockpiles. Continued hostilities involving Houthi forces and the Saudi-led coalition have further complicated the regional security outlook.
These developments leave energy markets vulnerable to renewed volatility, keeping inflation risks elevated despite the recent improvement in sentiment.
While the Dollar's correction has provided temporary relief, expectations of additional US interest rate increases continue to restrict Gold's upside potential.
Markets are pricing in an over 80% probability of another Federal Reserve rate hike before year-end, suggesting that the central bank's tightening cycle may not be finished.
Economists at UOB Group anticipate two additional rate increases, one in December 2026 and another during the first quarter of 2027, followed by an extended pause as inflation gradually moderates. However, they acknowledge that persistent energy costs, trade tariffs and AI-related inflation pressures could require policymakers to maintain a more restrictive stance.
UOB also considers an October rate hike unlikely, particularly given the proximity of the Federal Reserve meeting to the November 3 elections.
Attention now shifts toward the preliminary University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index and inflation expectations, which could provide fresh insight into household confidence and future price pressures.
Gold's recovery toward $4,200 suggests that buyers are gradually returning as Treasury yields and the Dollar ease. However, the rebound remains vulnerable while markets anticipate further Federal Reserve tightening. A sustained decline in US yields could support additional gains, but renewed Dollar strength or another inflation-driven repricing may quickly interrupt the recovery.

Technical AnalysisXAU/USD Hits One-Week High as Fed Rate Expectations Cap Gains_1

Gold is showing signs of renewed bullish momentum on the hourly chart, with price action recovering strongly from the recent lows around $4,080 and establishing a more constructive short-term structure. Trading near $4,179, the precious metal is currently testing an important technical area following its breakout above a consolidation range that had restricted upside movements over several sessions.
The recovery originated around the $4,110–$4,120 support zone, where repeated attempts to push prices lower were met with renewed buying interest. The subsequent rally carried Gold above the $4,175–$4,180 resistance region, marking an important shift in short-term market structure. Following an initial advance toward $4,210, prices have retreated to retest this former resistance area, which is now being challenged as potential support.
This breakout-and-retest formation represents a significant development for buyers. A successful defense of the $4,175–$4,180 region could establish the foundation for another bullish extension, particularly if the market begins forming higher lows above this level.
The next major obstacle is located around $4,220–$4,230, an area that has previously attracted substantial selling pressure. A sustained hourly close above this resistance would strengthen the bullish recovery and potentially accelerate buying momentum toward the $4,300–$4,315 supply zone.
Beyond this barrier, the projected price structure suggests that Gold could extend its recovery toward $4,350–$4,360, provided buyers maintain control and successfully overcome the intermediate resistance levels.
Nevertheless, the immediate bullish outlook remains dependent on the market's ability to defend the current breakout area. Failure to hold above $4,175 could trigger another corrective movement toward $4,145, while a sustained decline beneath the stronger $4,110–$4,120 support zone would undermine the recovery and expose the recent lows around $4,080.
Although the broader decline from September's highs has not yet been completely reversed, the recent price action suggests that selling pressure is beginning to ease. The developing sequence of higher lows, combined with the breakout from consolidation, supports the possibility of a more substantial recovery.
The preferred scenario remains a bullish continuation following the current retest, with $4,230 representing the first important upside hurdle before attention shifts toward $4,310 and ultimately $4,350.
